First step was to get to Plymouth and with all Kings Cross trains cancelled I managed to get to there at 11:30PM.<\/p>\n<p>Onto day 1.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=909\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-909\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-909\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12100-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12100-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12100-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Leaving Plymouth takes you through a nice park which is really is mountain biking route, but the winter tires did their job.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=910\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-910\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-910\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12101-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12101-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12101-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The paths next to the stream are nice as because it has been raining a lot, the streams are lively and there are plenty of waterfalls.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=912\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-912\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12103-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The water was far away at this point, this was nice. Later the lively water was annoying as it was over the roads.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=911\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-911\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-911\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12102-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12102-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12102-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The trail tries to use as much of the old train line as possible. Here is where the remaining track ends and the cycling trail takes over.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=913\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-913\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12104-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To get on some, you have to ride through them before riding up to the start. This is nice because you can see them from both angles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=923\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-923\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12114-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The route has many many viaducts to go over the vallies<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=916\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-916\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-916\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12107-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12107-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12107-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was a lot of moisture steaming off things like benches.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=917\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-917\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-917\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12108-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12108-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12108-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Entire fields were steaming. It was quire impressive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=918\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-918\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-918\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12109-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12109-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12109-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And of cause tunnels. If you ride through tunnels, you will get wet as the ceiling dribbles over all who dare to pass through.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=919\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-919\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-919\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12110-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12110-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12110-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then came Dartmoor which was beautiful, but it has hills. Dear god, so many hills. 20% gradients. Sharp corners on descents.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=921\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-921\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-921\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12112-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12112-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12112-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, this is a road. Not some dodgy unmapped road. It is a real road on both Google maps and open cycle maps. Both suggested this route. But OK, I can still use the foot bridge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=922\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-922\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-922\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12113-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12113-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12113-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But 200m further you come across this. No, There is no way you can ride through that. I did manage to find a foot bridge that got me to a footpath. Generally the roads were crazy. Covered with mud, rotting tree branches and streams flowing down them on gradients.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=927\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-927\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-927\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12118-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12118-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12118-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally got to Exeter with the rather scary cycle routes right next to the river..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=928\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-928\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-928\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12119-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12119-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12119-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Exeter seems to be obsessed with guns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/?attachment_id=929\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-929\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-929\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12120-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12120-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brej.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/SDC12120-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But more annoyingly, they really like cobble stones on roads with 15% gradients.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This years plan is to get to Southampton from Plymouth.
